MMA Mania recently posted the Bellator press release stating that former MU wrestling standout Ben Askren will face Dan Hornbuckle in the finals of the 170lb tournament at KC Live on June 17.  The winner of fight becomes the No. 1 contender to face the Bellator welterweight champ later this year.

I went to the first event a couple of weeks ago, and it was pretty awesome.  My friend tried to hustle some ringside tickets, but things fell through end we ended up going the GA route.  This time we’ll just do GA from the get go since it is drastically cheaper than the seats and you get a great view of all the action.  We stood on the catwalk next to Gordon Biersch and didn’t miss a thing.  You also get a great top-down view of all the uninterested girlfriends in attendance.

Freaking fantastic news. Although after having a guy drop dead after a Tough Man contest and watching Owen Hart drop from the roof of Kemper, I’m not sure my attendance will be good news for the combatants.

I’m thinking I can get plate #2 at the Flying Saucer in time for the final event on October 14th. Nothing accompanies watching guys beat the crap out of each other better than a free $100 bar tab.
