Boulevard Imperial Stout
After a year away, Boulevard is returning with their Imperial Stout limited release Smokestack offering. The Imperial Stout is a mix of beer aged 6 to 24 months in oak whiskey barrels and some fresh brew from the end of 2010. I pick up a lot of oak and toffee in the aroma while the taste is a lot of roast coffee and chocolate (Boulevard also notes the presence of vanilla, bourbon and molasses).
While I think mid-March might be a little late for busting out a beer as robust and warming as this, it did snow today and fans of the genre will appreciate a beer like this any time of year. You’ll be able to find it in KC liquor stores starting tomorrow, March 15th. If you need help tracking it down, OnTapKC should be updated with sightings.
*Note: After posting this, I realized the label coloring is a dead match for our freakish kitchen.
Got this compliments of Boulevard and it somehow found it’s way to the back of my fridge. Mowing the lawn in today’s beastly heat helped it find it’s way out. Ambers aren’t too high on my list right now, but this was nice and smooth.
If you want to get it on tap, you need to travel to Omaha. Here in KC, you can score two bottles in the 12-bottle variety pack.
Fuck yeah. Coming soon?
Update: Out on 3/1 with new Smokestack Dark Truth

Another new Boulevard Smokestack is due out next week. Boulevard Collaboration No. 1 is an Imperial Pilsner from the mind of Orval master brewer Jean-Marie Rock. Boulevard master brewer Steven Pauwels invited Rock to KC so the two could brew this beer, which is currently receiving rave reviews from those lucky enough to get a preview.
If you would like to preview this yourself, Boulevard would like to invite you to the Oread in Lawrence, KS on Monday (1/18) to sample the beer and have an opportunity to interact with Pauwels and Rock. The event starts at 8PM and all Boulevard fans or general beer enthusiasts are welcome.
