So at this point, you can at least tell that I am growing something.  I’ve started shaving my neck line and chin below my mouth.  This creates a cross between Wolverine’s mutton chops and a pedophile mustache.  I call it Weapon seX.

We’re a few short days away from the official start of Movember.  I first learned about the event last year and participated.  You may remember some photos of my lack of mustache growth last year.  Well, I’m going again, and I really think you should join me.

Who? Movember doesn’t discriminate on sex.  Ladies, feel free to stop bleaching your ‘stache for a month or just work the fund raising circuit.  Men are encouraged to shave their faces clean and grow sweet, sweet mustaches.

What? Movember is the month formerly known as November.  We use this month to celebrate the glory that is the mustache in the name of men’s health.  Movember initially teamed up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation, but this year also includes LIVESTRONG.

Where? Anywhere.  The first Movember was in 2003 in Australia.  Since then it has spread across the world.

When? Men are encouraged to shave their faces clean on November 1 and grow their mo through the entire month of November.  By registering on the site, you can start raising funds as early as today through December.

Why? This video should help out.  1 in 6 men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. That’s a higher risk percentage than women have of developing breast cancer.  At just about the same time I found out about Movember, I also found out about my dad being diagnosed with prostate cancer last year.  Thanks to it being found early, they were able to remove his prostate and he is living a healthy life.

Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in males age 18 - 35.  Awareness and self-examination is key in stopping this highly curable cancer.  I’ve been to the doctor for lumps…outside of my normal genital wart treatments.

I will also be collecting cash donations on November 7th at the Flying Saucer.  I’ll be there celebrating the unveiling of my saucer and rocking my week-old, baby ‘stache.

It was recently brought to my attention that KC is moving the fabulous St Patrick’s Day Parade from downtown to Westport.  I’m kind of torn on the issue.  On the one hand, I will not have to risk getting stuck in traffic leaving the parade to get to the booze.  On the other hand, a lot of the d-bags are likely to stay in Westport rather than the P&L where they no doubt would have ended up with the old parade route, riding the mechanical bull to their heart’s desire.

Either way, I’m rather excited to see my holiday season quickly approaching.  Those of us who do not work for the government or accept Jesus as our risen savior are really lacking in the holiday department once the new year arrives.  Seriously, it’s nearly 5 months between New Year’s Day and Memorial Day.  Which is why I have developed my own holiday calender to bridge the gap.  I honor all of these days with a vacation day:

• St Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17th
• Royal’s Home Opener, Friday, April 10th
• Cinco de Mustache (Mayo), Tuesday, May 5th

Sadly, a couple of them may be in jeopardy this year due to circumstances out of my control, but I will be doing my damnedest to honor both them and my liver by not going to work.  The Royal’s Home Opener is a two-fer for you Christians out there, as it falls on Good Friday.
